The Five Worst Polluting Companies On the Planet You Need To Know

Because once you know the names, you see them everywhere

As individuals we can do all the right things for the environment.

Yet we know the biggest environmental disasters are made by large companies. I wanted to find out more about:

(1) who they are, and

(2) the true scale of the pollutants over time.

I am not an activist. You could say I am a global citizen frustrated at the slow response to the climate crisis. I spend hours researching on my own time. And with COP26 coming up, it’s good to know the names, numbers and countries involved.

According to the Energy Analytics Institute, here are the figures on the five worst polluting companies on the planet:

Figures are total greenhouse gas emissions from 1965 to 2017 (in billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent).

#5 National Iranian Oil Co.

Iran has lax environmental regulations, which is why this state-owned company has a very poor environmental record.
