Have you felt that life is hostile to your plans over the past year? It seems like the world is conspiring to stop you from having a good life.

After the fourth lockdown in Winter 2021, I became overwhelmed. Like many people, I had no energy left.

At the start of the year, something wrong followed every time something right happened in our lives. But why? And how?

I wanted to understand it more. So I went back to basics. Thermodynamics, to be exact: How does energy work in the universe?

Feeding the Entropy Beast

The Second Law of Thermodynamics states disorder always increases over time. It’s called entropy, and it’s my word for this year.**

In other words, it’s Murphy’s Law: Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.

It may sound depressing, but the idea of entropy put a positive spin on the petty annoyances in daily life.
