This is the exact conversation we had this weekend. One woman on a eco podcast I listened to said she is going artificial but she didn't say why - I haven't worked out the exact science but I think it may be better to have an artificial tree to use every year! I do love the pine smell - but there are some nice candles (maybe a nice gift for the stocking? :-)
