How the Climate Crisis Is Changing My Longer-Term Plans
Who knows what will happen in the future?
Most people do not want to peer too far into the future. And yet, we make longer-term plans all the time.
Children, mortgages, pensions, marriage or partnership: You need some expectation of the future.
Each target we don’t make for climate change will impact our future quality of life.
The future key targets climate change scientists agree will make a difference are:
- 2030: At least 40% cuts in greenhouse gas emissions (from 1990 levels) to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees
- 2050 for a carbon neutral economy
- 2060 and 2070 agreed carbon neutral targets for Saudi Arabia and India
How we think about time is a problem.
Many issues don’t become important until they are right in front of our nose.
We had a taste of it in 2020.
The initial slow response by governments to the rising cases in the cities –starting with their initial disbelief - meant we lost too many lives in the first wave.
Who wants to bet this be the same slow response to climate disaster?
