How Joy Disrupts a Dying World

Even a tiny action can bring us closer to purpose and gives joy

Yesterday I ran into an old colleague on the street. I was taking my lunch time walk in the park to take a break from working at home.

After looking at blue screens for hours, the green grass and trees soothes my eyes. I can feel the stretch in my eye muscles.

In a past life, he was my manager. So it surprised me to see him near our local park. Even when we worked side by side, I tried not to talk to him too much. Especially not about politics.

My face was bare, my hair was hardly brushed let alone washed, and I was still wearing a tatty grey tracksuit jumper with a toothpaste stain on the sleeve.

He had parked his blue BMW sports by the entrance of the park, and I heard my name as I was about to enter the gates of the park.

After asking about my family, he turned to bush fires and said, “I don’t think we are moving fast enough about the environment.”

We are talking about a softly spoken, milky tea and grey suit type of guy. Calling for more extreme action. I could see him grinding his jaw as he looked away.

Everyone mentions the bush fires to me. That’s because it’s where my family lives. My sister has…
