In April 2013, reality hit the fast fashion world and hard.

The Rana Plaza factory collapsed in Dhaka, Bangladesh, killing 1,138 garment workers and injuring some 2,500 more.

Before then, did we think about the women who made our clothes working in sweatshop conditions? (And they were mostly women.)

We knew, but we pushed it out of our thoughts.

It wasn’t long after the factory collapse, gaps started showing on the shelves. The fast fashion industry could no longer hide behind the long supply chains across the planet.

My usual fun shopping trip after work with friends suddenly became an ethical nightmare.
